The Thursday survey questions of the week:

How would you cut federal spending? Be specific.

or

Black Swan? Great movie or great hype?

  1. Raise eligibility age for Medicare and Social Security incrementally over the next (insert period of time), and look into means testing for both programs.

  2. stop Methanol subsidies; Methanol has always been a boondogle taking more energy to produce than it gives; cut other farm subsidies to farms making more than 250,000, both of these two things contribute to world food price inflation; eliminate electric car price subsidies, the electricity usually comes from coal fired plants; reform public employee pensions, including AL teachers who get fully vested in 25 years; cut military budgets and get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and stop being the world's policeman; and similar things until the deficit is reduced somewhat; then limit all budgetary spending increases, including social security, to one half of inflation until the deficit is reduced to three percent of GDP when unemployment is above 6%; when employment is under 5%, allow the budget to be balanced before resuming automatic increases. Easier said than done. Debbi put me up to this.
