Thurvey 1/31/2012

Thursday survey.  The Thurvey.  It is time for you to open a booth in the world flea market of ideas. Surely there will be some rare and valuable finds.  Last week was stellar. In this place, thought is free, but it is not cheap . . .okay, that made little sense. you can do better.  Enter your responses to one or all of the questions below as a comment to this post.  Surely you know how to do that by now.  If not, it's time you found out.

TS #1   Winter is prime for TV watching.  This winter also brings us an unusual number of must-see movies. What TV shows or movies have earned your favor this winter?  Why?  Which did not?  You may also comment, if you wish, on the occasion of the final episode of Thirty Rock.

TS #2  Lip-syncing at the inauguration, making up girl friends who sadly die, it seems that we consider these things worthy of discussion as important, controversial topics of the day.  How do you feel about these things, or how do you feel about how we feel about these things?  What other similar pop-deceptions have you been intrigued by, or wondered why everyone else found interesting?

TS #3  Alabama taxes groceries.  One of two states that do.  Is that good or bad or does it matter?

TS #4  What gun violence federal legislative measures would you support?

TS #5  The Alabama legislature is beginning its session.  Dream wildly.  What do you want it to do?

TS #6  Do you know Twinkle Cavanaugh?  If you  don't, don't look it up, just make a guess for fun.   If you do, what do you think of her statements in the news last week?

TS #7  What question do you want answered this week?

  1. 3. It’s important. Thanks to Mississippi once again for keeping us from being alone at the bottom of the barrel.

    4. Beat all guns into plowshares. Has that one been proffered lately?

    5. Go home--before it does irreparable harm.

    6. Twinkle did not out herself. She was already out. Way, way out. The glimmer of hope is that many Alabamians who don’t regard themselves as environmentalists nonetheless prefer live trees, clean air, flourishing streams, and pristine beaches to their polluted alternatives. Every human who puts life above corporate profit is, in point of fact, an environmentalist.

    7. What would a real democracy look like?

  2. I like the Downton Abbey and all the great movies. Cost a fortune though.

    2. Diversions aren't bad. Weird news is fun. But like sugar, it can starve you to death.

    3. Absurd. Shameful. Time to stop taxing basic food groups. Who can possibly be against it?

    4. Restrictions on sales and manufacturing, not so much possession. Require liability insurance. Registration. Background check. No gun show sales without licensing. Require all gun owners to be called up for militia training once a quarter.

    5. Do away with grocery tax.

    6. Taro card reader

  4. TS #1 I don’t think I will be watching too much television as there are so many great books to enjoy. Subjects and courses to study and pass, midterms, finals, the joys of college.

TS #2 I believe if you have a talent then why fake it? Unfortunately, in the world in which we live, there isn’t much truth to be told, or at least we don’t have the security clearances for it.

TS #3 Honestly, it’s an unfair, unjust tax…Alabama’s main cash crop was once Marijuana, still a very profitable venture, however the question at hand was about taxing food. Not the greatest of idea’s for the public and consumers, as we’re taxed enough.

TS #4 It’s obvious more laws create more crime. More gun laws would mean more crimes, look at the states that run their territories with a totalitarian ruling style, their gun violence is astronomical. The Government needs to give this country back to the people as a REPUBLIC, not a communist/nihilistic state of hate.

TS #5 I hope that the Alabama Legislature will enact some type of ruling that will help assist my attorney, (no names spoken) to return my calls, emails and general inquiries. Just 5 mins. Bob. 

TS #6 Ah yes, the Huntsville or something area something or another…I stray from mainstream media and it’s contradictory reports.

TS #7 Is the constitution open for interpretation by congress? If so, seeing as this is a democracy, who governs the government?

  5. In the spirit of super bowl season and pop deception, I always wondered why Janet Jackson only having one nipple didn't get more attention.

And I think it begs the obvious follow up question... how do we know she even has one?
