Our government has said for a couple of years that there was no basis for detaining the four Uyghurians released last week from Gitmo last week, and yet there has been quite an outcry from a significant portion of the public about their release, and about the compensation paid to them for their detainment of eight years.

How do you feel and what do you think about the detention and/or release of these detainees, and others like them?

  1. Unlawful detainees should be released immediately. There is no evidence to hold these individuals. People have rights in relation to the government, regardless of whether or not the individual is a citizen of that nation. It is scary to consider the strength of the anger and hatred that might build in the heart of an illegal detainee, held for years at the whim of a foreign government. It will be hard for the detainee to get that time back. If a large section of my life had been taken without cause I would certainly seek revenge, although I hope that they are more forgiving. These individuals deserve compensation for their life, but unfortunately there is very little that a government can provide that will make up for that which was taken: freedom, dignity, liberty, justice, equality, and life.
