Thurvey

Okay, so it's Friday, but I was on the road too much yesterday to blog. I am trying to heed good advice not to text while driving, so I certainly couldn't blog. Hope you feel free to respond to the question of the week. Just click on the comment button at the bottom of the post, type in your comment, press anonymous, and click on publish. The question of the week:

Coincidence, randomness, answer to prayer, intervention of a higher power in our lives, result of collective conciousness? How do you explain coincidences that appear to defy odds?

  1. I should be doing other things, but in response to the Friday Thurvey: maybe all the things you listed -- coincidence, divine intervention, collective will, randomness/chaos -- are involved at different times (or maybe sometimes at the same time?) in unexplainable coincidences. Could be the role the saints who've gone before play wherever they are. I like that one.

  2. Sometimes there are coincidences that seem to defy odds. They may not really be that unusual. I can't think of any coincidence in my life that was totally outrageous. People love to explain things in marvelous and outrageous ways, but the simplest most obvious answer is often the most likely. The person was at the same coffee shop because you both like coffee and theirs is the best. You had been thinking about a blue bird and then you see one because it is Spring and birds enjoy the spring. You were thinking of an old friend and they happen to call you. There was probably a reason that you thought of them and a similar reason that they thought of you. People bring up a topic or have a thought that you yourself just had. What are the chances? Probably pretty good. Just because we cannot come up with the reason for something that does not mean that there is some mystical higher explanation. Look for real world cause and effect to begin with and if nothing comes to you then ask someone.

  4. I have often struggled with the same question i.e is it "divine intervention" or random occurrences. My take on it is ( perhaps because I believe in the promise of Jesus when He said " if you ask anything in My Name I will do it". (I'm paraphrasing somewhat), that God does answer prayers - just not in the way we expect - and not in the Old Testament way, and not always in our time frame but..... it makes more sense to me than to accept things happening as " random occurrences"

  5. I believe coincidence is when God wants to remain anonymous.

  6. I say go with your heart's voice. If you want it to be coincidence, it is. If you want it to be an answered prayer, it is. You have to follow what your heart tells you, nothing else matters. In all things you will find a connection if you look hard enough, listen close enough, believe enough.
